Find Your FORGE - Resilience FORGE

FORGE provides venture resources throughout Arizona with three locations on the main University of Arizona campus in Tucson and locations in downtown Tucson, Phoenix and Yuma.  Each week we will be profiling a different FORGE location to share the resources available.

This week, get to know our Resilience FORGE location – Located on the Tucson Campus in ENR2 Room S120A!

Resilience FORGE is a partnership between FORGE and the Arizona Institute for Resilient Environments and Societies.  At Resilience FORGE we work with students, faculty, staff, and community members to explore ideas to bring solutions to environmental and sustainability-related problems.  Through connecting with like-minded others and accessing resources, tools, mentors, and opportunities individuals can chart their path to tackling these big challenges.  Our student leaders, staff, and mentors are available during designated hours or by appointment to do individual or group consultations. Walk-ins always welcome!

Our dedicated Mentor in Residence at Resilience FORGE is Pat Hager.  Pat worked as a research scientist at the 3M Corporation in St. Paul, Minnesota for 30 years.  He served chiefly as a product and process development scientist in 4 different verticals (retail, industrial, automotive, and healthcare) to create new products and markets.  Pat held numerous technical leadership roles in 3M and retired as a Corporate Scientist in 2017.  Pat’s background includes an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and PhD in Polymer Science from the Institute of Polymer Science & Engineering in Akron, Ohio.

FORGE mentoring hours at Resilience FORGE are Monday mornings from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Additional times are available via zoom or in person by appointment only and can be scheduled by emailing phager@arizona.edu.

FORGE Your OWN Journey - From Sweden, to Tucson, to NYC

Linnea Andersson

A firsthand account by FORGE Fellow, Linnea Andersson of how FORGE shaped her college experience and expanded her opportunities.

Fall of 2020, I was helplessly browsing Handshake looking for a campus job. I was a sophomore at the time, and while I was already working part-time as a Resident Assistant, I was in a tough place financially being an international student in the middle of a global pandemic. A marketing position caught my eye, listed by a completely new unit on campus: FORGE – Finding Opportunities and Resources to Grow Entrepreneurs. I never had any interest in becoming an entrepreneur myself, but I decided to take a chance and submit my resume. That one decision ended up shaping the rest of my college career.

Over the past two years, FORGE has given me opportunities I would have never imagined. From interviewing CEOs and startup founders, to speaking in front of large crowds, to singlehandedly planning and executing major projects and marketing campaigns, I have gotten the chance to network with people I would have otherwise never met. Throughout that time, I have grown both as a professional and as a person.

Often when I talk to students, I get the question “If I don’t want to start my own company, why should I care about FORGE?”
